Huddersfield was our destination today which was once the heart of the woollen textile industry. We spent our time between two mills, the first housing McNair who make the best mountain shirt in the world and WT Johnston who finish the best mountain shirt in the world. McNair are busy changing the face of production process’ forever making sure all the weaving, milling, raising and steaming is completed within 10 miles of the mill where they make the shirt. They have only been selling to the public for just over a year but in that time they have received global acclaim. You only have to try one of the shirts on to instantly feel the quality and know that a purchase is on the cards.
WT Johnstons was our second stop they provide the McNair shirt finishing bringing out the exact characteristics needed to make their merino wool act exactly how they want. They are a fourth generation firm that Natalie from McNair’ said “add the magic” to the shirts, taking full advantage of this areas geography, climate and soft water all combing to produce the perfect mix for the finest fabrics.
